Are you thinking exactly to the point or you're thinking TOO MUCH? Are you thinking accurately, according to the requirement of the scenario or you are just exaggerating things?

If you're unable to make a self-analysis. Let me make this clear for you.
Do you make a lot of ASSUMPTIONS before even starting any task? Are you afraid of taking ACTION? Do you HESITATE to start a small TALK with someone, to have a little DEAL with someone, to TRUST someone at the start? But end up with all of your assumptions going wrong and find everything right in order. And this series goes on and on!

If you find yourself somewhere in the above scenarios, then it might be a sign that you are thinking TOO MUCH or simply OVER THINKING a lot of time!

Now you might be thinking that it's a bad thing to do. But WAIT a minute, there's a point to be noticed:
TWO factors are involved in THOUGHT PROCESSING. Illusions and Realities.
Now if your thoughts are based upon REALITIES, and you think and analyze your upcoming action realistically then you are alright to go with (but remember there should be a limit too!).
But if you continuously think based on ILLUSIONS, and those thoughts don't belong to reality in any way. Then here's the problem, this nonrealistic thinking is referred to OVER THINKING in some way!

Now the question is HOW TO STOP THIS?
Here are a few tips you can apply:

ANALYZE THE RESULTS: No matter what you're going to do, always think about the consequences of your action. And if you came to know that results contain nothing disastrous. Go along, stop thinking, and start doing.

CONSCIOUSNESS OF THOUGHTS: Always stay vigilant about what is going in and out of your head. And throw out any nonrealistic thought that comes to your mind.

TACKLING FEAR: Just start accepting failure the way you welcome success. Start doing things that make you uncomfortable. But always remember, you shouldn't put your COMMON SENSE aside.

AVOID PERFECTIONISM: Trying to be a perfectionist is a major cause for nonrealistic overthinking. Not a single human being in this world is perfect, everyone is bad at something. And let the things flow out, you can't take CONTROL of each and everything.

FORGIVE YOURSELF: Last but not the least, forgive others but always remember to forgive YOURSELF too. You aren't responsible for each and everything going around.
